It’s not often that a debut gig follows a debut release but tonight is an exception to the rule with Greg Bird & Flamingo Flame taking to the Bulls Head’s stage.

Greg, of Sunset Cinema Club fame, has moved from the post punk funk of his former seminal outfit to a gothic gaze synth and falsetto Prince meets Cocteau Twins pop. The superb ‘Shruburbia’ debut EP has been available for free from www.speechfewapy.com, two whole days before a shimmery note or drum machine beat has even been played to an audience.

'Shruburbia' out now on Speech Fewapy

The Flamingo Flame element seems to be the name given to his assortment of keyboards and fourtrack machines that are spread out across an ironing board with Greg himself entangled in fairy lights and a glittery mask.

The Bronski Beat campness of ‘Good in Leaves’ and the electronic handclap shimmy of ‘Wonderland’ show that the songwriting excellence that made Sunset Cinema Club so popular is still there, it has just shifted from a sweaty moshpit to a neon lit eighties cocktail bar.

As his confidence grows and the glitches are ironed out, Greg Bird & his Flamingo Flame will surely set many on fire with his sensual electronica.
